Kruger National park
Where nearly 2 million hectares of unrivalled diversity of life forms and fuses with historical and archaeological sights – this is real Africa – and a National Park that offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa and the park has been depicted in many photographic coffee table books. The diversity of habitats in the park, from open savannas to lush riverine forests, allows photographers the benefit of selecting preferred landscapes for their photographs.
Victoria Falls
As one of The Seven Natural Wonders of The World Victoria Falls presents a spectacular sight of awe-inspiring beauty and grandeur. It was described by the Kololo tribe living in the area as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ – ‘The Smoke that Thunders’ for the immense spray and incredible noise caused by the rushing water. Victoria Falls is now also known as the greatest curtain of falling water in the world when its width and height are combined.
One of the best ways to capture the whole of Victoria Falls is from the Air and its possible to book either a 15 or 25-minute ride in a helicopter which circles both sides. Each flight takes four passengers.
Madikwe National park
The reserve has it all: vast African landscapes, panoramic hilltop views, close-up animal encounters. Sweeping plains teeming with wildlife encourage offer an abundance of magnificent sights to photograph, from the minutia of the dung beetles standing atop their mounds of dung to steer, to the dense lush foliage harbouring swishing tails and leopards reclining in shady trees, to the vast panoramic plains that reveal the beauty of Africa this is a picture snapping utopia.
Pilanesberg National park
Pilanesberg is widely known as South Africa’s most popular game reserve, and not without good cause. Its abundance of wildlife and birdlife, stunning landscapes and great hides mean it’s also a great place for avid amateur photographers to get to grips with wildlife photography.
Marekele National park
The Marakele National Park in the heart of the Waterberg Mountains, as its Tswana name suggests, has become a “place of sanctuary” for an impressive variety of wildlife. The park is characterised by contrasting majestic mountain landscapes, grass-clad hills and deep valleys. Marakele is particularly worth visiting for slightly out of the ordinary sightings, including the world’s largest breeding colony of the endangered Cape Vulture.
